Example Shown:
The protected services contour represents the geographic extent of legal interference protection to which a licensed transmitter is entitled. The contour does not necessarily represent the maximum extent of a strong signal or viable service reception.
This is an important detail for prospective TV Bands service providers. While the spectrum may be available for unlicensed operation it may not be suitable for wireless data service.
To illustrate this point we have superimposed the 41 dBu television services protected contour (red line) over a Longley Rice field strength analysis, also calculated to 41 dBu, for KRMA-TV, RF channel 18 in Denver, Colorado.
